A Little Captain Swan, A Dash of Poor Unfortunate Souls, and Some Major Goddess Magic!

Hello my lovelies, I hope you’re all having a wonderful Monday — you know, if that’s even possible 😉 It’s  so nice to be back amongst all my favorite fellow bloggers and writers and overall creative types, but it’s been a while since my last “real” post so I figured a little catch me up post was in order. So pull up a comfy chair, grab a snack, and let’s chat a little shall we? 😀

Lately I’ve been:

Watching: Once Upon a Time Season Five had their Mid-Season premiere last night and Oh. My. God, my poor Captain Swan!!! What have then done to my Hook in that awful — and CREEPY — Underworld version of Storybrooke?! But on the plus side, yay for seeing Bae again!

And I also recently saw The Fifth Wave and the latest Star Wars in theaters, both were lovely though not sadly not spectacular, but what I REALLY want to see is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I’m not going to lie, I’m a super-fan of Austen’s but I wasn’t sure I actually wanted to see this until I saw a long preview for it before the Fifth Wave and then pardon my French, but hot damn, it looked good!!! And I finally saw 50 Shades of Grey and it ended up being rather wonderful! Complete with beautiful filmography, intriguing story and characters and a soundtrack that is just so delightfully sexy, I was left excited to see what happens next!

Reading: I haven’t had much time to read lately but I did just pick up a Catherine the Great novel yesterday that seems promising and am currently re-reading P.C. Cast’s phenomenal Goddess by Mistake (which is nothing short of pure epic fun!) on my lunch breaks. I have to say, I’m seriously not used to reading for only thirty minutes!Oh, and I’ve also been revisiting my favorite Doreen Virtue inspirational book, Goddesses and Angels, which has been most delightful and instructive, as per usual 😀

Listening to: As always, I’ve been enamored with The Phantom of the Opera and Love Never Dies lately — I mean really, when is the Phantom not to be enjoyed?! — and I’ve also fallen head over heels in love with Which Witch by Florence and the Machine and of course, Hello by Adele. (I can’t sing worth a crap, but I screech the hell out of Hello!) And I discovered that there is now a Hunchback of Notre Dame Musical that just released a soundtrack and I have had their version of “Heaven’s Light” on repeat for days now. Micheal Arden you have the voice of an angel my good Sir. And not to be forgotten, Heidi Blickenstaff’s rendition of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” is SPOT ON! I usually loath hearing different versions of my favorite Disney song, but this one is spectacular!

Writing: Unfortunately I’ve been on a writing hiatus (What, I’m not perfect!) but I plan on getting back on track here soon. I’m a notoriously slow writer anyway, so I suppose I finish things  up sooner or later…

Randomly loving: This Marchesa gown because it’s freaking gorgeous and it reminds me of something Kali or her mother Hada (from my WIP Prophecy and finished novel Believe) would wear:

Eating: The Pecan Turtle Blizzard from DQ because it is sheer perfection and total and utter bliss. Really. I wouldn’t lie to you 😉

Feeling thankful for: The nomination for the Infinity Dreams Award from Nova over at Confessons of A Literary Addict, The Liebster Blog Award & the Dragon’s Loyalty Award from Megan over at Invisible World, and the Verstile Blogger Award from Tessa over at Tessa’s Meadow! Thank you so much you guys for all the love, you are simply the greatest!!! 😀

Wanting: Soooooo many iTunes gift cards… why must music be so expensive?!!! And a new phone because someone who will remain nameless — but I’m totally looking at you little brother — took mine months ago and never got his own and then CRACKED my new screen.

You’re lucky I like you… But you owe me a phone.

Just saying.

And to finally see Mockingjay Part Two because I freaking missed it in theaters! Thankfully it’s coming out on DVD this month 😀

Well, what about you my lovelies, what have you been up to lately? Anything exciting I might have missed in the last two/three months? Let me know! 😀

Blogger Recognition Award

Hello again my lovelies, hope y’all had a delightful weekend, I know I did! Not only did my bestie of nine years get married to a wonderful guy (with me as the Maid of Honor), but I came home to discover that I’d been nominated for a new blog award!!! Pretty dresses + blog love = a pretty great weekend for me all around. 😀

Here we are near the end of my Senior year in high school at the Serendipity book release, an anthology we were both published in and worked on!

Here we are near the end of my Senior year in high school! This was year one of our friendship, can you believe it?! I can’t!!!

I want to say a big THANK YOU to Jamie over at Through Two Blue Eyes, for nominating me for this award. If you haven’t visited her site yet then you’re flat out insane because I’ve been telling y’all to check out her awesome blog for years! So go ahead, head on over there and I’ll be right here when you get back…

See what I mean, awesome right?! Told ya 😉

br_award

Rules and regulations:

  1. Select 15 blogs to nominate
  2. Thank the person who nominated you
  3. Give a brief story of how your blog got started and a piece or two of advice for new bloggers.
  4. Attach the award
  5. Comment on each nominee’s blog and let them know that you’ve nominated them
  6. Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night

How my blog got started: Well my blog got started mainly because I was in a rut writing the sequel to my first novel and I saw how much fun my bestie had writing her blog and I thought…why not give it a try?! And so Moonstonemaiden was born and I’ve had more fun and made so many great friends from this experience that I can’t imagine not having this blog! You guys are just awesome and you make life a happier thing 😀

Advice for new bloggers: Read other people’s blogs and find those that intrigue you and for the love of the blogosphere: COMMENT ON THEM! And I don’t mean a generic comment that’s more of an ad for your blog, but really comment and give that blogger some feedback or appreciation because that’s what you want for your own blog. This allows you to start conversations that led to friendships and before you know it you have your own group of writing friends and supporters that make this whole experience worth while. And once you’re done with all of that, lol, try your hand at new and different posts, you’ll be surprised with how a little diversity opens up your blog to new readers and new opportunities. I like participating in the Weekly Photo Challenges personally. It gives me a chance to play with photography and memories and allows for new viewers to visit Moonstonemaiden who might not have seen it before!

My nominees: The lovely ladies over at Mystic Cooking (who just got an agent recently so BIG KUDOS to them!!!), the ever inspiring Juliette from Vampire Maman, one of my all-time favorite bloggers (like seriously): Fredrik Kayser, and the hilarious angelic/demonic counterparts of R.b. Holbrook over at Angel vs. Demon! Go check these bloggers out my lovelies, they are some of the best out there! (Jamie included of course!)

Thanks again for the blog love my lovelies!!! And a big thank you to forgottenmeadows for nominating me for my second Sunshine Award, and Rain’s Writing Realm for nominating me for another Liebster Award! I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond, I wasn’t blogging regularly and I accidentally forgot to write up a post once I started writing again. My bad! Thanks so much ladies!!!

(And more on the wedding in another post, I have to wait for the pictures to be sent my way LOL! I’m so not a patient person…)

This is not from the wedding, but it is one of my favorite pictures of us!

Escaping Into Books

Hello my lovelies, I hope y’all had a great firework-filled Independence Day yesterday! Mine was comprised of chili cheese dogs, sweet tea, and movies with the family (National Treasure anyone!) 😀
I’m sorry I haven’t posted the last two months, *sheepish grin* it’s mostly due to sheer laziness I admit, but I have been reading up a storm, so that’s what I’m going to blame it on, lol. From Nora Roberts to Diana Gabaldon to Melissa de la Cruz, I’ve been immersed in exotic locations with sexy characters, danger, romance, and magic (which is not a bad way to spend two months, you have to admit)! But all that aside, it’s time to get back to regular posting, so expect some goodies next week 😀
Now before I go for today, I have to say a big thank you to the Daily Post and it’s bloggers for showcasing my 50 Word Challenge entry alongside some awesome others. It truely made my day and I promptly ran around my house and told everyone how excited I was! So thank you!!!

Blogging Awards And Yummy Cookies!

Hello my lovelies! I hope you had wonderful weekends, I know I did, I spent all of Saturday watching Season 3 of Downton and OH MY GOODNESS! But I can’t give anything away now because not all of the season hasn’t been aired on PBS yet and I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. But when that last episode airs, prepare yourselves for some serious Downton Abbey blogging time!

But for today, I want to catch up on some wonderful blogging awards, so without further ado…here we go!

The completely amazing Jamie at Through Two Blue Eyes nominated me for the Shine On Award! For those of you who haven’t visited her blog yet what are you waiting for?! GO NOW! From Sherlock, to Star Wars, to the Avengers, to real life issues, this blog has it all!

shineonaward

The Shine On Award Rules:

1. Link back to the blogger who nominated you.

2. Post the badge on your blog.

3. Answer the questions posed to you.

4. Nominate five bloggers who shine a little light in your day and be sure to notify them.

5. Issue some questions you’d like them to answer

What’s your favorite comedy movie or TV show that you’ve seen?

This is a hard one, I LOVE comedy and really it all depends on my mood that day as to which one I love most. Hmmm…I think I’m going to say Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows. I love this movie simply because it is hilarious and watching it with my best friend usually ends up making that day great. We quote this movie ALL THE TIME,  and she (my bestie) is the Watson to my Holmes!

The Avengers or the X-Men and why?

Mean question, very mean question! I love both of them but if I had to pick just one I’d probably say X-Men. I’ve been in love with Wolverine since I was ten I think, and over-all I enjoy the X-Men movies more than I did the one Avenger movie. But to be fair, I like some of the Avengers and their own movies more than I like X-Men. I know, it’s confusing. But I love Iron Man and Thor in their own movies!

What is one of your favorite carnival rides?

I haven’t been to a carnival in years but I like any ride that doesn’t take me too high into the air (except the swings, I love the swings!) or flips me upside down.  To be honest, I mostly just like to walk around with my friends and family and gossip and all.

Who do you like more in films, the heroes or the villains? Why?

Heroes I think. I love having someone to root for, but it really just depends on the movie. Sometimes I go for the anti-hero (the Phantom, Damon from The Vampire Diaries) but it really just depends on what the story is.

Is there something that comes with the territory of blogging that you struggle with–is it hard for you to write your posts, schedule them, come up with the post ideas, ect?

At times I struggle with making myself write a post. I just get into moods where I don’t want to write anything, and I feel like I can’t get what I want to say to come across the right way.

Favorite ice cream.

New York Super Fudge Chunk by Ben and Jerry’s!

If you could meet your blogging friends, who would you like to meet and where and how would you like to meet them?

I’d like to meet all of my blogging buddies, all of the people I talk to regularly and have come to count as friends! I think a lovely dinner at a fantastically yummy Chinese food resturant would be a great place to meet everyone 😀

And for the Shine On award I’d like to nominate a few of the bloggers who make my slice of the blogosphere a happier place to visit:

Sass & Balderdash

youthful yogini worried writer

Mystic Cooking

Justine Dee — Writer in Play

And my questions to you are:

  1. Do you have a favorite book series? What is it?
  2. What is the funniest movie quote you’ve come across?
  3. If you could karaoke one song perfectly, what song would you chose?
  4. Dogs or cats?
  5. What is the one household chore you loath the most?

And secondly:

I was also nominated for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award by the incredibly talented Justine Dee from Justine Dee  — Writer in Play! There’s always something fabulous to read on her blog, especially if you love Celtic and Arthurian lore! And right now she’s going a jewelry giveaway, so go check her out!

  3. State 7 things about yourself.
  4. Nominate 15 bloggers for this award and link to them.

7 things about me:

1) I adore the novel Alice in Wonderland and pretty much anything Wonderland related. One of my favorite Alice spin-offs is the Looking Glass War Series by Frank Beddor.

2)  The sound of bag-pipes immediately makes me smile, calms me down, and makes me feel safe.

3) Having grown up attending Highland Games and reenacting Scottish history, I have a deep appreciation for men in kilts. Seriously, there is nothing sexier than a man who can pull off a kilt!

4) I love PBS. I’m a bit of a PBS junkie, I love all the travel shows, operas, plays, British shows, and the new Shakespeare shows.

5) Elephants, wolves, and tigers are some of my favorite animals.

6) I was an editor for my High School literary magazine my senior year.

7) I started reading the Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot when I was in middle school and still read them (all the time) nowadays. They’re some of the funniest books I’ve ever read and Mia is one of my all-time favorite characters.

My nominees for this award are some of my favorite bloggers, they’re people who always make me smile and think every time I read a new post. You guys are awesome!

Thank you guys for my lovely lovely awards, seriously, they mean the world to me! And to show my gratitude (and because I’d been thinking of making them for days now) I’ve made us all some yummy Oatmeal Chocolate-Chip Cookies! Yay 😀

Cookies for everyone!

Gandalf And Gollum And Hobbits, Oh My!

It’s hard to feel like Christmas is literally next week when it’s 80 degrees outside, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for at least a relatively cool Christmas day! There’s no use in hoping for a white Christmas where I live because if it ever snowed more than a few evanescent flurries here, something would be terribly terribly wrong. Panic would ensue, people would start hording water and batteries, and the whole honey-baked ham/unwrapping presents/generally pleasantness of a family day full of squeals and squabbling would be lost and I’m just not up for missing out on the honey-baked ham. I wait all year for this ham… So needless to say, I’ll settle for a balmy breeze and leave the snow to my Northern neighbors (who are better equipped to handle winter’s icy wrath). But anyway, I truly meant to post more than one post last week (honest) but between an unholy/ slightly demonic stomach virus/flu-thing  that left me rather er… incapacitated for a few days (i.e. chained to the bathroom) and attempted Christmas shopping, I got rather behind.  My bad 😀

Anyway, I say attempted shopping instead of actual shopping because although I set out with a purchase in mind, and a coupon at the ready, I returned home present-less.  *Sad face* I’m one of those people who doesn’t go shopping until I’ve looked online for what I want to buy, found the price, looked for a coupon if there’s one available, grumbled if there isn’t a coupon, and confirmed that whatever I want is in stock at the store I’m going to. I’ve arrived at stores too many times with enthusiasm and hopefulness in full gear only to discover that whatever I wanted was not in the store, so now I CHECK! So all this in mind, I set out to buy my bestie’s Christmas present (the Thomas Kinkade Disney Calendar for 2013) and after circling and combing through the calendar section enough times to attract attention from my fellow shoppers I decided to just go have a store clerk locate the item. I was pleased (if not surprised) when he confirmed that yes the calendar was in stock and waited patiently as he went in search of it. Fifteen minutes later he returned crestfallen to announce that the calendar was nowhere to be found…sigh. It’s sad when the computer knows an item is in the store, a worker has admittedly seen the item in the store, and yet it cannot be found. Oh well, bestie will just have to settle for ordering it herself online (because I hate ordering things online) or picking a different calendar. Who knew calendars were such a popular gift?!

There was an up-side to the whole shopping debacle however, not only did I get to spend an hour in my most favorite store ever (Barnes and Noble), but I also came across the cutest little Hobbit-themed dolls!

Gandalf the Grey

and…

Gollum and Bilbo

Gandalf is my favorite of course! I haven’t seen the Hobbit yet, as I’m planning on waiting until Les Miserables comes out so I can see both of them at once, but I am so very excited! I just hope these new ones blend in visually with the previous ones because I adore the Lord of the Rings (extended versions) and it would annoy me when I do a movie marathon if there was too much of a discrepancy (though really, it’s more of my favorite characters so I doubt I’m going to be complaining, lol).

And before I go, I am tickled to announce that I was nominated for the REALITY blog award by my favorite blogging duo: Mystic Cooking! Thank you so much Katie and Heidi, y’all are the best and you truly made my day!

realityblogaward

The Rules:

  1. Display the award logo on your blog.
  2. Link back to the person who nominated you.
  3. Answer the questions.
  4. Pass the award onto to any other bloggers you want — and link to one of their specific posts so that they get notified by ping back

If you could change something what would you change? Nothing. I may not have liked everything in my life but it’s made me who I am today and I’m trying to be content and happy with myself and my life.

If you could relive one day, when would it be?

One day of my life or any day?! Hmm, I would relieve the day my entire family went to Disney when I was six because that’s one of the few memories I have where all of us (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.) were together and happy. And any day: that’s such a hard question for a history nut, I don’t know…but I’ve always wanted to see ancient Troy, but you know, not the day it fell or anything.

What’s one thing that really scares you?

The thought of losing someone I love.

What one dream have you not completed yet, and do you think you will be able to complete it?

Being published! And heck yes, I plan on completing it! 😀

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be?

Maybe one of my characters…though it would need to be a calm day or something because my characters tend to have dangerous and busy lives…

I hereby optionally pass this award onto:

BecomingEllipsisMark

and

darksilvertree

Thank y’all again, and I promise to post more this week (you know, barring a return from the stomach flu from hell or anything else that might put a damper on my desire to write)! But before I go…are any of you going to see/have seen the Hobbit?! Was it good? Let me know, but please no spoilers (and yes, I’ve read the book so really how much can be spoiled, but you know what I mean, lol)! And how’s holiday shopping going for you guys? Fun-filled or fiasco?

I’ve Been Smiling Nonstop For A Few Days Now!

Hello my lovely readers! In case you couldn’t tell from the title of this post, I’m in a bit of a good mood 😀 I’ve been nominated for a few blogging awards over the last  few days and I’m just so happy and thankful that I’ve been dancing in my chair as I’ve prepared to write this post. It means a lot to me that people enjoy this blog and I want to say thank you to all my awesome new blogging buddies, all the commenters, the people who press “like”, and those who just scroll through my blog to see what in the world I’m writing about! You guys keep me blogging even when I feel like I have nothing to give. 😀

Ok, first up is the:

leibster-blog-awardI was nominated for the Liebster Blog award by the incredibly talented Sarah Monagle, from sarah monagle, pondering it all. If you haven’t read this woman’s poetry or seen her beautiful photography, do yourself a favor and go look at her blog…yes, I do mean right this minute…I’ll wait. Isn’t she fantastic?!

The Rules:

1) Paste the award picture into your blog.

2) Write up 11 NEW questions directed towards your nominees.

3) When you receive the award, you must post 11 random facts about yourself.

4) Pass the award onto 11 other blogs and let them know

Here are my questions from Sarah:

1)      If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?

Probably a wolf because I love the structure of family and the comfort and familiarity that comes from being surrounded by those you love.

2)     What place do you find most captivating?

Ireland. It’s just so mystical and I can’t wait to see it for myself!

3)     What are your aspirations as a writer/photographer/artist/blogger?

Naturally, I want to be the best writer/blogger I can be and I work hard to perfect everything I do. I also want to publish my first novel (Believe) and the plethora of others that I am either working on already or have the idea for.

4)     What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

The scariest thing I’ve done is left home for college, it sounds so silly I know, but for me it was terrifying.

5)     What is your biggest regret?

I try not to regret things. With an anxiety disorder, I usually worry about everything all the time anyway but I’m trying to let go of things like regrets, fear, and worries.

6)     What would do if you weren’t afraid?

Swim in the ocean more I guess. I’ve lived right next to the ocean my entire life but going to the beach is not as much fun when you’re terrified of being eaten by sharks. I’m one of those nutty people who shriek like a banshee if I step on a shell the wrong way or seaweed touches my ankle.

7)      If you had to move to a country other than the one you are living in, which country would you choose?

Have I mentioned Ireland…? (And England, Scotland, and Wales…you know, that general area!)

8)     What is your all-time favorite book?

Way too hard of a question! There are so many books that I love… (I think I’m hyperventilating here)! For this question, I’ll pick one that I think isn’t too well-known, in the hope that y’all might want to check it out: The China Garden by Liz Berry. It is my idea of a perfect novel.  Find out more about it here. And Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier, it’s just so breathtakingly epic and beautiful and set in Ireland! It too is another example of a perfect novel! Find out more about it here.

9)     What type of music do you prefer?

Again that’s a hard question. I love music, I couldn’t imagine life without it, but what I like really depends on what type of mood I’m in. I love big sweeping, dramatic musicals, pop, alternative, Irish, country…it really just depends on what I feel like singing that day. Right now I’m in love with Florence + the Machine, A Fine Frenzy, Heather Dale, the 25th Anniversary concert edition of Les Miserables, and a few Disney movie soundtracks, lol.

10)  What blog post (by another) stays most vivid in your mind?

I don’t know, I’ve read so many awesome and inspiring posts that I don’t think it’s possible to pick just one.  😀

11)   What is your one most favorite word?

I like words like: evanescent, shimmer, coalesce…pretty much pretty words that describe things, lol.

And my 11 questions for the nominees are:

1)       Are you a day or nighttime writer?

2)      Do you make a playlist for your writing projects or does music distract you?

3)      What new movie are you looking most forward to seeing in the near future?

4)      What was the last book that you read? Would you recommend it?

5)      What’s your idea of a perfect day?

6)      What is your favorite television show and /or movie? Why?

7)      Have you ever read a scene in a book that reminds you of a scene you’ve written before or had already planned to write?

8)      If you won the lottery, what would be your first purchase?

9)      If you could only eat one type of food (Italian, Chinese, Classic American etc.) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

10)   What is your favorite song at the moment?

11)    What is your favorite time period in history or who is your favorite historical figure? Why?

I’ll get to the random facts later, but here are my nominations for the Liebster award:

The second up is:

versitle-blogger

I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger award by Jen over at the cuter than cute Winter Owls blog. I always end up smiling whenever I read one of her posts or just look at the lovely artwork that she displays! If you love owls, this is the blog to read!

1. Display the award certificate on your website.
2. Announce your win with a post and include a link to whoever presented your award.
3. Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers. Create a post linking to them and drop them a comment to tip them off.
4. Post 7 interesting facts about yourself.

Okay here’s where the 11 random facts from before is going to coincide with the 7 interesting facts from this award (because honestly, I don’t want to have to write any more lol)!

11 Random Facts:

1)       I love to sing. I have no actual talent for singing but I will belt out a song with all the emotion I’ve got in me.

2)      That being said, if I’m singing, I’m probably emotional about something and it’s a fifty-fifty on whether I’m singing because I’m really really angry or really really happy. My family and friends have learned to approach me with caution when they hear me singing in my room.

3)      I reread books. I’ve never understood people who only read books once; if I’m going to spend money on a book then I plan on enjoying it over and over again!

4)      Ancient history fascinates me but once you hit the 19th century my enthusiasm lessens considerably (with a few exceptions).

5)      I love BBC Dramas! The romance, the beauty, the peacefulness of times gone by, I just love it!

6)      After I first read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins I swore I would never watch reality television again. That lasted until I discovered My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding on TLC.

7)      I’m a sucker for anything romantic, the quickest way to get me to watch or read something is to tell me there’s a romantic element to it. (That’s how my dad convinced me to watch The Last of the Mohicans. He kept telling me how great it was, how there were fight scenes, people trekking through the wilderness, yada yada yada  until finally he stopped, remembered who he was talking to, looked at me, and said it also had an epic romance. No more needed to be said, and I fell in love with the movie and the music in it!)

8)      I lived on a boat for over a year with no heat or air conditioning, and here in the south, that means something. It was an experience I hated at the time but now I count it as one of my biggest learning adventures.

9)      I have played with actual tiger cubs! Tigers have been one of my favorite animals since before I can remember, so to actually play with one was thrilling. When I was little – like four or five – I had four imaginary tigers (and one plastic toy one) that followed me everywhere. My mom would have to open the door for them wherever we went and buy cat food for them and everything, lol.

10)   I like to watch Jeopardy and try to beat the contestant’s by yelling at the screen at the top of my lungs (because you know, if I say the answer loud enough, they’ll eventually hear me).

11)    I’m partially color blind; I have a hard time seeing differences in colors the closer they get to looking like one another, like blue, purple, and grey have the tendency to throw me sometimes. But I adore colors and whenever I write a character, I always give them a specific color palette so I can get a better feel for their personality.

And my nominations for the Versatile Blogger award are (I’m only doing 11 instead of 15):

The Blog of Otis

Creative Writing with the Crimson League

Sass & Balderdash

sarah monagle, pondering it all

Shannon A Thompson

And finally:

sunshine-blogger-award-2

A big thanks goes out to the incredibly awesome Jae from Lit and Scribbles with Jae, who nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger award! Somehow between all the different goals she sets for herself, she finds the time to not only write a kick-butt blog, but she also has a habit of drawing her fellow bloggers!

I nominate Winter Owls for this sunshine award because visiting her site leaves you with the joy and happiness of a sunny day! 😀

Thank you again for everything my lovely readers, y’all are the best!
