La Belle et la Bete

Hello my lovelies, hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday evening so far! Mine had been delightful I have to say, I finally got to hold my five month old little cousin, er well, he’s my cousin’s baby, so I don’t know what exactly that makes him to me really. A second cousin? Or first cousin once-removed maybe? Ancestry am I right. Either way, I finally at long last got to hold him )I was horridly sick when he was first born and every time I’ve seen him since, others have stolen him away first so I was forced to wait lol) and he is just the cutest little bundle of smiles ever, and considering I am not a baby person, it’s safe to say he really is just that awesome 😀 But all the familial loveliness aside, this post is really about an incredibly beautiful film I discovered a few weekends back that I wanted to share with you all called La Belle et la Bete, a 2014 French rendition of my favorite fairy-tale of all time: Beauty and the Beast.

I’d heard about this film a year or so ago and found it on YouTube a few months back, but I didn’t actually sit down and watch it until about three weeks ago, and let me just sat…WOW! Seriously, just wow. It was so worth the three hours I spent watching it, even though it paused every five seconds on YouTube (because my Wi-Fi hates me unfortunately), I mean I just couldn’t look away. Every second of every frame is just breathtaking. No exaggeration. No hyperbole. Just awesomeness. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer for yourself and see what I mean: (note: this trailer has English dubbing but the movie itself is in French with English subtitles, just so there’s no confusion later!)

See what I mean? Doesn’t it look just wonderfully amazing?! And trust me, it so is! And the sparklies…for the love of all that glitters, the sparklies my lovelies! Even the light glows and sparkles at times, and then there are literal sparklies floating hypnotically all-over the place at times! Perfection? Yes!

With the lush costumes, jewel-time colors, stunning romantic scenery, and incredibly talented actors, this film is just a marvel for the eye. I even forgot the aggravation I usually feel when forced to read subtitles throughout an entire film. Within minutes, I was happily drinking in the beauty of the French language, feeling that it only added to the magical, unattainable allure of the enchanting masterpiece. And the Beast himself if created and brought to life so artistically and yet so realistically it’s astounding. This whole production has really raised the bar for my expectations of the live-action Disney version coming out in 2017! My only little quibble storyline wise is that I feel like Belle and the Beast did not get to spend adequate time together, getting to know one another and forging that absolute need for one another. But the chemistry between the actors and the heartbreaking mythological twist to the story almost fully makes up for this lack in bonding.

And there was no library, but really, I think the ballroom makes up for the lack of books, almost. I really enjoyed the dancing scenes, the tension and desire between Belle and the Beast really came through wonderfully as they swept across the black and gold ballroom-floor. Though I would have liked to have seen a library in this gorgeous, rose-strewn castle!

Overall, this is one movie I desperately want to buy now and add to my own collection! Sadly the French DVD does not work with American DVD players, so I have to find one that will work here and hopefully soon, because as wonderful as it was on YouTube (blurry thanks to my Wi-Fi) I’m sure it will be 100 times better with the clarity and crispness of a DVD! And while I was looking it up, I discovered three different and excruciatingly beautiful covers, and now I don’t know which one I want more! Is it sad that I really want all three? They’re just so pretty!

What do you think my lovelies, does this look like something you’d enjoy? Have you seen it and if so what did you think? And which cover would you choose if you could one pick one? Let me know in the comments! 😀

Downton Abbey Meets Beauty and the Beast!

Ok my lovelies, I’m trying not to hyperventilate right now but I just read online that Dan Stevens (Matthew from Downton Abbey) is in talks to play the Beast in the new Disney live-action Beauty and the Beast starring opposite Emma Watson!!!!!

OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE!!!

Admittedly, I’ve never thought of Dan for this role but that’s mostly because I’ve been preoccupied with the notion that Chris Hemsworth was perfect for it, but I would so love to see this happen! I was less than thrilled when it looked like Ryan Gosling was going to star as my favorite Disney guy, (just no) and Hemsworth was always a longshot considering he’s already in another fairytale franchise (as the Huntsman from Snow White and the Huntsman), so PLEASE let’s see my favorite Downton guy play my favorite Disney Prince! How awesome would that be?!!!

What do you guys think, would Dan make a good Beast or are you in the enemy camp of Ryan Gosling? Or are you still dreaming of the fantasy of Chris Hemsworth or another man of your choice? Let me know! 😀

Once Upon a Time Moments: Season Two

Hello my lovelies! Yesterday I posted my favorite moments from Season One of Once Upon a Time and today I have for you my favorites from Season Two! So let’s get started shall we 😀

Moonstonemaiden’s Favorite OUAT Season Two Moments:

1) When Snow leapt after Emma- It’s episode one again and already I am crying…again. Seriously. From the moment two minutes in when Snow looked at her daughter with so much love and proclaimed “You found us!” to this, when she refuses to lose her child again, I’m pretty much curled up on the couch whimpering. THE LOVE!!!

2) When Regina let Daniel Go- She just wanted her true love to live… just maybe not in writhing pain as a Jekyll and Hyde type thing, but still…poor Regina. I know it broke her heart to let him go after all this time and to finally accept that they would never be together.

3) When Downton met Storybrooke- Mrs. Patmore is in Storybrooke! I probably got too excited by this, but my two favorite shows just merged together for one (heartbreaking) episode and I totally loved it ❤ (Maybe this is where Matthew and Sybil went after all… they’re not really dead, just cursed!)

4) When we met Snow’s mother- What are the odds that the same episode as the Downton-crossover there’s an equally awesome Bold and the Beautiful-crossover?! I mean how much awesomeness can this one episode contain? It took me about five seconds to figure out that the sweet, smiling Queen Eva was in fact, the scheming, nutty, and all around Queen of Soap Darkness Quinn Fuller! Personally I love Quinn, she’s just that crazy that she’s freaking great and now I know she can be a beacon of light and kindness… you know, if she wanted to 😉

5) When Belle was shot and fell over the town line- I pretty much screamed and fell off the couch here. I mean the whole time she and Rumple are hugging that line I was nervous and just as I went to say so out loud, the gunshot rang out and I freaked! THEY JUST FOUND ONE ANOTHER AFTER 28 YEARS (and however long she was locked away in that tower) AND NOW SHE HAS NO MEMORY OF HIM!!! AHHHHH!!!!! What the heck?!!! Yeah, the whole house pretty much erupted into righteous, freaked-out confusion here. It was a real The Shit Hath Hit-ith The Fan moment.  Not to mention we now had to deal with Lacey instead of Belle.

6) When Belle broke the teacup- I mean I know she just lost her memory, almost got run over by a car, got shot by a pissed-off pirate, and saw a strange but handsome man heal her with magic before throwing a ball of flames at someone, but still… There was no need to throw Chip at a hospital wall and small him into pieces. None. And it nearly broke Rumple’s heart. Just saying.

7) When Bae met Henry- I called Bae’s true identity and the fact that he was Henry’s father way earlier, so I was thrilled to watch as not only Emma and Bae (now known as Neal) found one another after ten years apart, but as Bae discovered he had a son and Henry learned the truth, that his dad was alive! I never blamed Emma for lying to Henry because all she knew was that his father got her sent to prison and abandoned her, but it was such a happy moment to see them thrown together again and know that soon the truth was going to come out. And you just know Bae is going to be one Helluva dad!

8) When Rumple called Belle on his deathbed- Rumple is dying and Belle still has no memory of him, but that doesn’t stop him from reaching out to her, his one true love, when he knows the end is near. That phone call is beautiful, heartfelt, gloriousness. She was his hero, she loved him, she made him want to be better, even in his last minutes he worried about Belle more than himself and wanted her to know who she really was, so she wouldn’t be afraid anymore. Please excuse me as I go cry in a corner somewhere…

9) When Emma had to go make tacos- I nearly peed on myself when Emma and Henry walked in on Snow and Charming “resting”. The horrified look on Emma’s face was perfect as was her declaration that she had to go make tacos (and try to sear the image out of her head)! As Charming said “It’s impressive that we can still provide her with a few traumatic childhood memories at this stage of the game.”

10) When Snow felt Regina’s pain- They have a complicated step-mother/daughter & bestie/enemy relationship but I love it. So when Snow linked herself to Regina so they could find her and then felt the torture Regina was enduring, it was just heartbreaking.  Come one ladies, put your differences aside and admit your best-friendship! Friends don’t let friends get tortured!

11) When Emma told Bae she loved him- I KNEW IT! I hated Bae’s fiancé Tamara (with good reason it turns out) and really like Hook flirting shamelessly with Emma, but I really wanted to see these two admit their true feelings for one another. I love Hook and Emma but I equally love Bae and Emma and really, these two just have something that needed to be acknowledged, whatever happens. All the pain of the past aside, there is real love here, and it took a heck of a lot for Emma to admit it.

12) Hook!!!- Killian Jones aka Hook arrives on the scene and my mind nearly explodes. He is part dashing rouge and part unexpected hero wrapped up into one sexy, leather-clad pirate captain complete with wit, sarcasm, flirtatiousness, and smoldering looks that make one blush just watching the show. Seriously…I mean really, Emma has all the luck.

Oh, and I have to add this one in here because it can’t be left off (even though I forgot it momentarily)…

13) When Snow was “waking up”- She reentered her cursed sleep world to find a way for her and Emma to get back home to Charming and Henry and discovered that her husband had come to find her, but that meant falling under a sleeping curse himself! It nearly destroyed her to realize she was waking up and would have to leave him in that burning room of fire, alone and lost to her until she and Emma found a way back to Storybrooke and she broke his curse with true love’s kiss. The complete and utter despair in her voice as she said “I’m waking up,” broke my heart right along with hers and I had to remind myself that they will find one another… that they will always find one another!

Once Upon a Time…

Hello again my lovelies! As I said two posts back, I recently discovered a new show to obsess over/totally fall in love with and it’s nothing short of sheer fairy tale perfection: Once Upon a Time! I first saw the show when it premiered and watched the first six episodes before I fell behind and quit — which isn’t unusual for me as I hate having to watch a show at a specific time every week, I’d rather just buy the seasons and binge watch whenever I want — but I loved what I saw and always wanted to catch back up, so for Christmas I grabbed the first three seasons on DVD and immersed myself in the wonders of Storybrooke Maine and the Enchanted Forest.

I was immediately re-hooked and delighted by the familiar fairy tale characters and the awesome twists and turns that altered the stories just enough that I was left guessing. At first I watched it alone (my mom and brother were less than thrilled at my movie choice), then six episode in, my mother sat down and started watching — which meant when we finished season one we had to re-watch it so she could catch up and see it from the beginning — then before we started season two, my brother decided he was interested so we had to wait for him to catch up. So all in all I think I watched season one three times before we all sat down together, all equally obsessed at this point, and devoured the second and third seasons, placing our bets on who was who and what was going to happen next. (I totally called who was Bae and who was Pinocchio by the way, amongst other things.)

It was one of the most fun two weeks I’ve had in a while, just sitting with my family and all of us just totally enjoying the show and having such a great time together. (One of the funniest moments for me was when I came home and found my twenty-something brother sitting on the couch watching the show and he just looked up at me with a completely serious worried expression and was like: “I don’t know how Snow and Charming are going to work this one out…”). With great humor and poignancy, Once Upon a Time cast a magical spell and as each episode passed, I fell further and further in love. The complexity and growth of the characters and the story is superb and the acting in spot on. And while the graphics may not be perfect, they have a whimsical charm that just sucks you in until you don’t care that things look a little different.

A few of my favorite elements include the Rumplestiltskin /Belle relationship as well as the whole Bae/Emma/Hook deal (oddly enough I love Emma with both men, separately of course lol, which is way out of character for me as I am a pick-and-stick-until-death type of person but I just love both of those relationships and how each character grows from experiencing love.), Regina and Robin Hood, and the many, many complicated parent/child relationships: Rumple & Bae, Regina/Henry/Emma, Cora & Regina, and of course Snow White and Prince Charming with their daughter Emma, the savior of Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest.  Later on I’ll do a Favorite Moments List, but all in all the show is AMAZING and I can’t wait to see season four when it comes to DVD in August (so no spoilers please)!

Monday Movie: The Young Victoria

I’ll have a new Monday Movie next week!

moonstonemaiden

Hello my lovelies, it’s time once again for Monday Movies and this week I’ve chosen the incredibly moving and cinematically beautiful gem: The Young Victoria, starring the beautiful Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend, and Paul Bettany. The film showcases the early struggles of Britain’s longest reigning monarch, from her youth as a overprotected and stifled young woman, to the dangers of her first turbulent years and Queen, as well as the touching romance with her husband Prince Albert. With its dazzling mix of danger, power struggles, court intrigue, political unrest, romance, and above all: life — the realism of beauty, frustrations, and pain of life — The Young Victoria is nothing short of sheer perfection!

Emily Blunt’s portrayal of a young and newly empowered young woman is stunning, she adds layer after convincing layer of realism to a woman who inspired an entire era. She artfully displays the impetuousness of…

Idina Sings It All!

Hello my lovelies 😀 In case you didn’t hear, Let It Go, from Disney’s Frozen (which I still haven’t seen, but I will buy it as soon as it comes out on DVD!) won an Academy Award last night and considering I cry every time I hear this song, I think it was definitely well-deserved! Idina Menzel seems to have a way of picking the best songs (Let It Go, Defying Gravity) that touch your heart and leave you with a sense of hope and tears in your eyes! So for all of you who love this song as much as I do or haven’t heard it yet, or who love the incredibly talented songstress Idina Menzel here you go:

Did you cry too? (Sniffle)

A Handsome Stranger At Downton Abbey

*Warning: this post may contain a spoiler or two regarding Edith and the fourth season of Downton Abbey, if you haven’t finished the season, read this post later!*

Hello my lovelies, I hope you had a delightful weekend! Mine was spent re-watching the first three seasons of Downton Abbey since I devoured the entire fourth season last weekend (a real post about that later!) and I was feeling nostalgic and a little bit sad about some of my favorite characters. I miss Matthew and Sybil, terribly…sigh. And while I was reveling in the joy of the early pre-death seasons, and reviewing my thoughts on the happenings of the fourth season, I came to a realization…a sudden idea gripped me most fervently and hasn’t let me go since…Edith needs herself a man, but not just any man…

She needs Richard Armitage!

Image From Google He made the four hours of North and South well worth while!

He made the four hours of North and South well worth while!

Most of you may know Richard from The Hobbit films, where he plays the sexy dwarf prince/king Thorin Oakenshield, but those lucky amongst you know him from BBC’s miniseries North and South, BBC’s Robin Hood, and BBC’s The Vicar of Dibley. Are you sensing a theme here? I know he’s busy breaking into American films and fame, but really, at this point, being on Downton Abbey is the fastest way of becoming famous over here! We love those characters and the actors who play them and I think Richard would make a stunning(ly attractive) addition to the all-star cast. And for those of you who are unfamiliar with the SEXINESS that is Mr. Armitage, go to youtube now and type in his name or any of the shows I listed above and just wait for your mouth to start watering and your heart to start palpitating. Or better yet, just watch this video and see what I mean.

It’s kind of shameless, but I’m okay with that 😀 And I freely admit that near the end of the video, I find myself thinking “Bite that glove Gisborne, bite it!”

But back to business, Edith, she kind of deserves him really, after putting up with her horrid love life for four consecutive seasons. I mean really besides the five or six one-episode disastrous flirtations, she’s really only had two serious love interests: Strallan and Gregson, while both her sisters have met and married their one true loves. The first, Strallan — the man I rooted for for three seasons — ditched her at the altar, the bastard, and the second, Gregson, literally disappeared after going to Germany in an effort to become a citizen so that he could divorce his lunatic wife and marry Edith, and hasn’t been seen since. So really, there seems to be a spot open for a new love interest until they decide what to do with Gregson. And considering Branson and Matthew (her sisters’ husbands) are just flat out amazing, I think it’s high time Edith was properly romanced by someone the audience can swoon over as well, and who better than Richard?! He’s gorgeous, he’s intense, bossy, arrogant, aloof, and just so damn perfect for this role! He’d definitely give Edith a romance to remember (not to mention the audience) and if they want to bring Gregson back, they can and then she’d have to chose between the two, maybe he’ll appear on her and Richard’s wedding day…right before they say I do

“Hello there Lord Armitage!”

Can you tell I’ve been fantasizing about this just a little?

I’m just saying it’s an idea.

What do y’all think, do you like Richard Armitage? What’s your favorite film of his? Would you mind if he visited Downton Abbey, or is there another actor you want to see in the Abbey? Let me know!

Downton Abbey, Les Miserables, And Happy Memories

Hello my lovelies, I hope you’re all having a wonderful Tuesday. Today’s been peaceful and quiet but I’m looking forward to tomorrow when my bestie and I high-tail it over to the store so I can grab the third season of my new favorite TV show Downton Abbey on DVD. Oh I sense another Downton marathon coming my way this weekend! *Happy sigh* I was going to be the good girl and wait until the entire season had played out on PBS before buying it but my mom said she couldn’t wait until March to see all that was going on this season. She has no patience for things like this, and in all honesty I don’t either. I’d rather watch something when I want to then have to worry about remembering to sit down at a specific time each week. But anyway, now I don’t have to feel guilty zooming through the entire season in two days nor do I have to suffer through the next month waiting to see how things turn out! 😀

This past weekend was filled with packing for me for our upcoming move. I don’t know about you guys but I absolutely loathe packing, it takes forever and I’m just not good at it. I’m more of a un-packer and a room decorator. I like to tinker and spend time putting things in their place and making a room look pretty and inviting but I have no skill in consolidating a lifetime’s worth of items into cardboard boxes. I’m a bit of a pack-rat and that comes back to bite me in the rear when it comes time to move. Though there are a few perks of sorting through all my old stuff. Every now and then I come across things that are so jam-packed with memories I can’t help but sit back and bask in the remembering. Sunday I found such a keepsake, a book my mother gave me when she told me I would soon have a little brother.

This book helped me learn how to be a big sister!

It’s cute as all get out and it means the world to me. It’s about a little girl who takes care of her doll, Baby Dear, alongside her mother who is caring for the girl’s new baby sister. All in all it glorifies the awesomeness of being a big sister and I know it made me feel very helpful and even more excited than I already was when my little brother arrived. It’s a book I will treasure my whole life and finding it once again just made me smile and remember how thankful I am to be a big sister.

Isn’t it adorable!

And speaking of memories, I forgot to tell you guy’s about seeing Les Miserables! The bestie, Mom, and I went three weeks ago and finally saw it and it was AWESOME! I was surprised my Mom agreed to go and was excited as she was considering her reluctance to watch new musicals since the whole RENT debacle. But I pestered her about it long enough and as soon as she saw the first preview she started to get excited, and by the time we went to the theaters, all three of us were chomping at the bit to see the glory that is Les Mis. And it didn’t disappoint…much. The first hour was amazing, it made all of us weep (loudly) and that’s saying something because for years I was convinced by best friend was part cyborg or something because she NEVER cries at anything. I find it unnatural, but then I cry at the drop of a hat, so I guess we make a good contrast.

Image From Google

Image From Google

So there the three of us were near sobbing at the woes of gentle Fantine and finding ourselves surprised by Russell Crowe’s excellent portrayal of Javert (I wasn’t sure he could pull it off but he did!) when I started to notice something was amuck. I won’t give away any spoilers just in case y’all have yet to see it, but to suffice it to say, if you’re a fan of Eponine (she’s my favorite Les Mis character)…prepare yourself. Not that Samantha Barks does a bad portrayal or anything, she doesn’t; she’s actually my favorite Eponine ever and starred in the wonderful 25th Anniversary Concert Edition, which I highly recommend you guys watch. But the writers did some creative work on the younger cast that my bestie and I did not appreciate and this included some changes to Eponine’s story. And I’m sorry movie-makers, but the songs go in a specific order for a reason, when you mix them up it loses some of the effect. But other than that, the movie was fantastic. I can’t wait to buy it when it comes out, but I will still love the concert version for showing what I think is the better story…in a sense.

So what about y’all are there any TV shows you’re in love with at the moment, maybe Downton Abbey? What about precious keepsakes, are there things that bring back happy memories? And what about Les Miserables, did you guys like it; what was your favorite song and who’s your favorite character? (On My Own & Eponine!)
