Once Upon a Time Moments: Season Four

Alright my lovelies, it’s time to delve back into one of my all-time favorite shows: Once Upon a Time!!! I’ve been trying to keep up with season five online (which is a bit of a nightmare really, I’m not used to dealing with commercials and weeklong breaks!) but I’m still reeling from all the shocks and surprises of season four and believe me, there were many! So let’s get to it!

Moonstonemaiden’s Favorite OUAT Season Four Moments:

1) When Snow lost her cool! – Or as I like to call it, the epic “Buy a flashlight!” moment, this is hands down the funniest moment in all of season four! It’s too much, really, just watch and see for yourselves:

2) When Hook had a cellphone – A 2oo year old pirate with a modern technical device…um yeah, let the hilarity ensue! The fact that Hook eventually broke down and revealed his complete cluelessness to Elsa had me laughing up a storm. But you know, kudos for trying Killian!

3) When Elsa trusted Emma – Yay for this epic friendship! Emma seriously needs someone her age with powers that she can relate to and although I love her bestie-ship with Regina, it’s really Elsa who understands Emma’s fear concerning her magic. And when Elsa braves the danger and takes Emma’s hand I just adore her! Here’s hoping we get more of Arendelle royalty in upcoming seasons!

4) The Spell of Shattered Sight – Not only was it gut-wrenching to see all my favorite couples and friends separate out of fear of harming those they loved most,  but it was also unexpectedly hilarious. I wasn’t sure whether to be teary with all the goodbyes (Hook/Emma and Robin/Regina anyone!) or to laugh my butt off when Snow and Charming started bickering over how to swaddle a baby and if the stroller was really under warranty! But perhaps the best bit was Snow and Regina’s all-out battle in the police station and their subsequent laugh-fest once the spell wore off and they realized what was happening!

5) When Emma Loved Ingrid -I thought the whole backstory of Emma and Ingrid was incredibly moving. It’s so nice to know that Emma had at least one loving family situation in her youth, and even though Ingrid was flawed, you could see the love between them. I think they would have made a wonderful family if things had turned out differently, and it makes me wonder how different their lives might have been.

6) When Anna spoke her vows – I loved Anna in this show, she was just so outrageously adorable, but when she said her vows to Kristoff as they came closer and closer to drowning, I almost lost it. To see her actually lose hope was shocking and so very moving, and yes I am actually tearing up as I type this! If nothing else, this proved just how much she truly loved Kristoff — who, I must add, I ADORED in this show!

7) When the Snow Queen sacrificed herself – Ingrid was one of those characters I didn’t care for a first and then ended up loving, so when she gave her life so that the town could live, it broke my heart! She just wanted the love of her family and forgiveness and really who doesn’t want these two things?! Between the music in the background and the little montage of her joining her sisters as children again, as though given a second chance, I was basically a weepy mess on the end of the couch.

8) When Hook tried to warn Emma – For the love of all that is magical Rumple, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH YOU?! Stealing Hook’s heart and using him to help with nefarious deeds is not cool! But when Hook grabbed Emma’s hand and tried to communicate via their love I just about melted!

9) When Belle banished Rumple – What the Hell Rumple?!!! Sorry, but basically this wasn’t the best season for Rumbelle lovers considering Rumple had a backwards slide into darkness, but when Belle forced him to the town-line and then OUT of Storybrooke, I FREAKED!!! What was happening?! Rumple had been doing so well and then wham, out of the blue his darker tendencies creep back out and now he’s gone?! AGHHHHHH!!!No one messes with my Rumbelle!!!

10) When the heroes faced their inner-darkness – One thing I did enjoy (as painful as it was) was all the moments when the Heroes finally battled their own inner-evils. Belle was the first, revealing that she’d selfishly not helped Anna in time, then Charming and Snow revealed the horrible truth of what they did to ensure that Emma was born good. Emma mourned the loss of a long-ago friend she’d pushed aside, and even Regina (now firmly a hero in my book) flirted with the idea of returning to her dark ways. I think it’s important to show that these great icons faltered along the way, they aren’t just 100% good all the time. They make horrible, life-altering mistakes, but they do their best to pick themselves up and make the world a better place.

11) When Ursula sang – Considering Ursula is my favorite Disney Villain(ess) ever, I was ecstatic to see her brought to the show for more than that one episode in season three (when Regina pretended to be her). Ursula’s backstory is another example of the writers of the show playing around with the fairy tales origin stories and creating something new but yet recognizable! I love that Ursula was basically Ariel (or a pre-Ariel) and that she and Hook had a semi-sweet history together.

You know… before Hook stole her singing voice (to get back at her human-hating and blackmailing dad) and pissed her the HELL off!

12) When Zelena revealed herself – Marian’s not real!!! I’ve never been so happy to see the end of a OUAT character lol!I mean, not that I’m not sad that Zelena killed the real Marian and took her place and all, but as a Outlaw Queen fan, let me just say: thank goodness Zelena’s back! I was starting to freak out there that another one of my couples was going to be cruelly split apart, so as much as I wanted to kick Zelena’s butt for interfering , I was also so happy to see her and not Marian!

13) When Maleficent met her daughter – I was so happy to see Maleficent back this season in all her stylish glory, but witnessing her emotional journey to be reunited with her daughter (Emma’s pushed away friend) Lily (who was inadvertently lost after Snow and Charming cursed her with all of Emma’s darkness) was one of my favorite parts of this season. I love the two of them together, how Maleficent was the perfect person to love Lily, even despite her darkness, and I look forward to seeing more of them as Maleficent teaches her daughter all about being a “scary dragon bitch”.

14) When Regina fought for happiness – Considering the devastation Regina can unleash when her happiness is taken from her (the entirety of seasons one and two anyone?), I was so thrilled to see her stand up and fight for her right to be happy. She doesn’t give up, or turn dark, or curse anyone, but finally takes matter into her own hands the right way! Go Regina!!!

15) The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – This was a cute throwback to one of Disney’s most well known films, and it was nice seeing it make it’s mark in Once Upon a Time’s history. And the sorcerer himself has me wondering…

16) When August returned – YES!!! How I’ve missed my favorite motorcycle riding puppet-man! There for a time I was rooting for him and Emma in season one, but now I think they are simply the best besties ever (other than my own bestie that is)! August is just so good for Emma, he’s pretty much perfect friend material and I love that their bond had Hook worried (although needlessly). But now that he’s returned he needs to stay put! But then, Pinocchio is not one to be tamed and tethered!

17) When Disney was an Author – Not only did August deliver one of the best OUAT speeches ever, but he also revealed that Disney himself was an Author back in the day! How awesome is that?! Please excuse me as I sit here and SQUEE!!!

18) When Henry went into the book – It’s about time Henry got to have an adventure and be the hero! He demonstrated just how great he would be to have around in the Enchanted Forest and finally got to join his family inside a fairy tale book (albeit a dark one)!

19) When Hook was a sweet coward – He may be the cutest, sweetest, most romantic, goat’s-milk drinking coward ever and I just adored him and his flirtatious interactions with Emma! When she was teaching him how to sword-fight I nearly swooned, but when he died to protect her and Henry I about lost it. I know it was all in an alternate universe, but watching Hook die was heart wrenching!

20) When Emma said “I love you” – Emma’s fear was palpable when she desperately searched for Killian after returning to Storybrooke, and their reunion one of their sweetest moments ever, but it was when she finally admitted that she loved him that had me keeling over from all the feels. It took three seasons and three alternate Hooks before she could say it, but she said it! No take backs!!!

21) When Emma became the Dark One – Thanks to spoilers on Facebook (grrr) I knew this was coming, but watching it happen nearly ripped my heart out. But as sad as it was, I love that Emma did it to save Regina and that Regina can finally see just how much she means to Emma. And considering Emma’s darkness had been stripped away before birth, I think this will be an interesting thing for the Savior of Storybrooke to deal with. But oh, the heartache of her being ripped from her family and Hook!!!

22) The progression of Captain Swan – In one word: perfection. The show really gave Hook and Emma the time to forge something real after that epic season three finale kiss and I couldn’t be more appreciative! It wasn’t all roses and sunshine for Captain Swan, but they push forward TOGETHER and I just LOVE them like crazy!!! From date nights:

To epic reunion hugs, they are simple the best!

23) Henry and his ever-growing family – With two kickass  stepdad-figures like Hook and Robin Hood, and two powerful mothers like Regina and Emma, plus the epicness of his father Bae, grandparents including Snow White, Charming, Rumple, and Belle (she’s his step-grandmother and I totally count this!), a possible step-brother (little Roland), and a brand-new uncle (baby Neal), Henry is surrounded by a loving, complicated, all-encompassing family and I LOVE IT!!! He’s has gone from the little unloved boy (well, he felt unloved anyway) to a teenager surrounded by people who love him more than anything and it just makes my heart so happy! This is the dream people!!!

And there you have it my lovelies, my favorite moments from season four! What were your favorite moments, did I miss any on this list? Do you have a favorite OUAT couple or bestie-ship? Let me know!

And don’t forget to check out my favorite moments from season one, two and three!

Not Everything That Sparkles Is Glitter

Hello my lovelies, I hope you’re all staying warm and cozy on this frosty, wet morning! I know it’s January and all but honestly, I don’t understand why it has to be this cold this far south, this morning I was actually longing for a pair of mittens…MITTENS I tell you. I don’t even think Florida imports mittens…but anyway, since it is so wretchedly cold, I urge you to go and grab a cup of hot cocoa.  I’ll be right here when you get back, and let’s face it: everything is better with chocolate!

Now as I was saying, it was freaking cold this morning — the kind of cold that seeps into your bones and makes you feel like you’re turning into one giant marble statue who will never again know human warmth — but I have to admit Nature did leave me quite a beautiful surprise to make up for making my toes feel as though they would fall off at the slightest touch: a back porch filled with thousands and thousands of twinkling, incandescent diamonds! It was breathtakingly beautiful. Y’all know how much I love anything that sparkles at me! I stood transfixed, staring googly-eyed at the sparkling lights, fully convinced that somehow someone had dumped a truck-full of silver glitter on our plain wooden porch in the middle of the night while we were all sleeping, like some kind and benevolent Glitter Fairy. It wasn’t until my mother snapped me out of my revelry with a warning not to slip on the ice that I realized my newfound sparklies were not the work of some bedazzled Glinda-esque being, but of Mother Nature herself. After a moment of chagrin for pondering the existence of a Glitter Fairy, I shrugged with a loopy smile and went back to gazing reverently. Suddenly the cold wasn’t so bad. It’s very rare we get anything resembling snow or ice here in my home of sunshine and sand (as I mentioned in post Mythic Snow), so seeing such unexpected beauty in a moment of real discomfort was a gift indeed. It made me feel grateful for being awake so early so I could be one of the few people to see the delicate latticework of new ice glisten and glow in the light of a luminous full moon.

It also made me think of all the times I’ve let my discomfort and general grumpiness blind me to the wonders of the world around me. I’m an extremely moody person, partially because I have an anxiety disorder, and partially because that’s just my personality (or my writer’s personality, as I like to call it lol). I’m snarky and proud of it. And I’ve always thought that being moody made me a better writer because it allowed me to feel the high’s and low’s that my characters experience, but I’ve also noticed that I tend to miss out sometimes on the small happiness’s presented to me because I’m too fixated on what’s bothering me at the moment. This is something about myself that I want to work on this year. With all my wonderful snarkiness and all my moods, I want to try to remember to look for the hidden sparklies in all situations. I don’t guarantee I’ll succeed every time, but as the great and wise Dory says “Just keep swimming!” Admit it, you’re singing the song now aren’t you?

*Just realized I still have no cocoa. Must rectify this. Be right back!*

Ahh chocolate-y goodness 😀 Chocolate is a sparkly you know.

Well what about you guy’s, any unexpected surprises or resolutions for the new year? Are you a fan of snow and the cold weather? Let me know! Oh and before you go: P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney!

It’s A New Year For Moonstonemaiden!

Hello my lovelies!!!!! Wow…has it been awhile or what?! Let me just say: This unjust and tortuous absence was not planned — or happily borne on my end I can ASSURE you — but when life throws you one ‘adventure’ after another you just have to go with it (and blog in your head, you guys have no idea how many posts I’ve constructed in my mind the past few months lol)! But I have to admit, blogging in one’s head is a very lonely and quiet affair and I much prefer the company of all my wonderful blogging friends in this wondrous blogosphere! I have missed all of y’all like crazy and shed many a tear over the situation, and fully intend to catch up on your blogs one at a time — so don’t freak out if you get like twenty likes and comments from me in one day lol. It just means you’re awesome and I have missed you terribly 🙂

Now I’m not sure how consistent my posts will be in the near future until we get the internet situation/nightmare figured out, I may only post on Thursdays and Fridays for a while, but I figured I would go ahead and get a post in while I can! And this is just my Welcome Back Post, I’ll have a real Moonstonemaiden post up later 😀

I hope everyone had a wonderful year last year and an amazing New Year so far, and know that this year will be freaking awesome!

A Little Visit To Downton Abbey

Hello my lovelies, I hope you’ve enjoyed the poetry the last few days! In case you missed it, the First Letter in the Unsigned Letters series was posted yesterday, and if you have any questions as to what exactly the whole deal is about, just click here. 😀

This is going to be a rather short post (as I need to start packing in order to go visit family this weekend) but I didn’t want to leave you without a happy Friday post to get y’all by until I get back on Monday! So I had to think for a moment, what makes me happy? And it took all of a nanosecond for the high-pitched voice inside my head to start shrieking: DOWNTON ABBEY…DOWNTON ABBEY MAKES ME HAPPY! So there we have it. Now since this has to be a “short” blog, I won’t gush too much (I’ll save that for another post), I’ll merely say this: I LOVE DOWNTON ABBEY!

Just hearing the Theme song makes me feel all happy and serene! That’s sad, but true 😀 What about y’all, are you Downton fans? Who’s your favorite character and what has been your favorite part so far? If you’ve seen all of season three, please don’t give anything away that happens after the third episode, they haven’t aired here yet! Thanks!

Photo Friday: Home

A week or so ago I went wandering around Downtown with my camera and snapped a few pictures of the scenery. I love the sights here: the colors, the textures, the views! Everything is a lovely contradiction: it’s warm and cold (the wind), bright and muted, home and foreign. Things here are bright and colorful, the green is the greenest green I’ve ever seen and the sunshine is a warm buttery yellow, until you move closer to the water and then the air turns silvery grey and the colors mute themselves in reverence to the color spectrum of the sea. The sun is hot and warm against your skin, but the wind off the water is strong and almost lifts you into the air and makes you wish you’d remembered your sweater. And the buildings and facades are things you’ve seen all your life (if you’ve lived here all your life, like me anyway) but their construction is reminiscent of a bygone time and a country across the sea. This place, my home, makes me smile; we know exactly how and what we are, we’re everything that ever was and will ever be and we’d happily eat seafood with every meal!

What about y’all? What sights and colors remind you of home? Do you see boats everyday? Fields of grass? Or a jungle of buildings and bright lights? 😀

Mystical, fairy-tale stairs leading down to the water…I’d like to think so.

The Edge Of The World

I don’t know why, but I feel like giving you all a little back story for this poem before you read it so that you understand where it comes from. The Edge of the World is a poem a I wrote a few years ago when I started college and fell into a anxiety-ridden depression for a few months after having to leave home to attend a University three hours away. Three hours doesn’t sound like much, but for me it was an eternity (especially since I didn’t have a car). I would no longer be able to wake up and stumble into the next room and have my family be right there, like they always had been for eighteen years. I know most teenagers long for the day when they can leave home and finally live on their own, but I was never one of them. I am a family person all the way and a proud Momma’s Girl. So needless to say, the first three months of college life were an absolute misery, I’ve never cried so much in my entire life as I did those months and I hope never to again. I’d never experienced such fear and pain, literal pain. Every morning when I woke, as soon as my eyes flicked open,  I immediately felt this suffocating weight crash down upon my chest, splintering my ribs, and it stayed there until I fell fitfully asleep every night. I’d been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder during my senior year of high school and had experienced the horror of an panic attack, but this crushing pain and sadness was more than I had ever felt before, it was very nearly too much.

Over time though, as I relaxed bit by aching bit, I realized what my family and friends had known all along: I needed this. I needed to find out who I was apart from everyone I knew. I needed to learn how to live with just myself (not that I’m one of those clueless college kids who arrives on campus not knowing how to do their laundry, that’s not what I mean lol). There was a purpose for all of this suffering…go figure. Once I adjusted to the new life I was living, I realized that it wasn’t so bad; there were even moments that I enjoyed immensely when I forgot to be sad for a little while. I still  missed my mother terribly every single day, but I went to class and saw friends and went shopping and lived…I was so surprised to discover that I was living my life. I was living…I was okay, not perfect, but fine enough for the time being. Things got better everyday after those first three months, little by little (though I backslid everynow and then, but hey I’m only human lol). And when I returned for my second year I discovered that while I continued to miss my family, I was happy to be back at school. Imagine that…I was happy.

But back to the poem, I wrote this one afternoon (near the end of those first three months) as a friend and I drove home for the weekend. I was feeling better, but still not fully myself and wondered if I ever would feel normal again. We were crossing over a bridge and I looked out to where the water touched the sky and wondered…what if that is the edge of the world? Could I walk up to it and look down at the universe? What if I fell…did I want to fall?

The Edge of the World:

I’ve been to the edge of the world,

And peered below into the darkness;

Seen the vastness of eternity, and held my breath.

Icy waters rushed past my bare feet. Burning cold.

Searing flesh, freezing memories.

I’ve straddled the edge of the world,

Dangling one leg on each side; waiting to choose

To finally choose…unsure but desperate.

Seeking relief, needing relief

Demanding relief.

I’ve leaned over the edge of the world,

Seen the whole of the universe waiting,

Felt myself break into a thousand sharp pieces.

Still unsure of letting go, breaking free,

Of giving up to the unknowns of forever and eternity.

I’ve decided my fate at the edge of the world,

Resolved to pull back, to tread the waters home.

And feel each stab of pain

Like rays of sunlight on my face.

To try, again and again and again.

I’ve survived temptation at the end of the world,

Fought back the false promises of peace;

Destroyed the source of the whispered words.

Tore down the lies, the promises of artificial escape.

Stood up again and backed slowly away.

I’ve lost a part of myself to the edge of the world,

Straying so close comes with a heavy consequence;

And now part of me is lost forever:

My mind, my heart, my soul, my sanity.

I can never be whole again.

I’ve been to the edge of the world,

And found my way back home again,

Determined to try the game once more.

Knowing there will always be a part of me that is tainted,

Ruined and panic-driven by the wilds of forever and eternity.
