A Handsome Stranger At Downton Abbey

*Warning: this post may contain a spoiler or two regarding Edith and the fourth season of Downton Abbey, if you haven’t finished the season, read this post later!*

Hello my lovelies, I hope you had a delightful weekend! Mine was spent re-watching the first three seasons of Downton Abbey since I devoured the entire fourth season last weekend (a real post about that later!) and I was feeling nostalgic and a little bit sad about some of my favorite characters. I miss Matthew and Sybil, terribly…sigh. And while I was reveling in the joy of the early pre-death seasons, and reviewing my thoughts on the happenings of the fourth season, I came to a realization…a sudden idea gripped me most fervently and hasn’t let me go since…Edith needs herself a man, but not just any man…

She needs Richard Armitage!

He made the four hours of North and South well worth while!

Most of you may know Richard from The Hobbit films, where he plays the sexy dwarf prince/king Thorin Oakenshield, but those lucky amongst you know him from BBC’s miniseries North and South, BBC’s Robin Hood, and BBC’s The Vicar of Dibley. Are you sensing a theme here? I know he’s busy breaking into American films and fame, but really, at this point, being on Downton Abbey is the fastest way of becoming famous over here! We love those characters and the actors who play them and I think Richard would make a stunning(ly attractive) addition to the all-star cast. And for those of you who are unfamiliar with the SEXINESS that is Mr. Armitage, go to youtube now and type in his name or any of the shows I listed above and just wait for your mouth to start watering and your heart to start palpitating. Or better yet, just watch this video and see what I mean.

It’s kind of shameless, but I’m okay with that 😀 And I freely admit that near the end of the video, I find myself thinking “Bite that glove Gisborne, bite it!”

But back to business, Edith, she kind of deserves him really, after putting up with her horrid love life for four consecutive seasons. I mean really besides the five or six one-episode disastrous flirtations, she’s really only had two serious love interests: Strallan and Gregson, while both her sisters have met and married their one true loves. The first, Strallan — the man I rooted for for three seasons — ditched her at the altar, the bastard, and the second, Gregson, literally disappeared after going to Germany in an effort to become a citizen so that he could divorce his lunatic wife and marry Edith, and hasn’t been seen since. So really, there seems to be a spot open for a new love interest until they decide what to do with Gregson. And considering Branson and Matthew (her sisters’ husbands) are just flat out amazing, I think it’s high time Edith was properly romanced by someone the audience can swoon over as well, and who better than Richard?! He’s gorgeous, he’s intense, bossy, arrogant, aloof, and just so damn perfect for this role! He’d definitely give Edith a romance to remember (not to mention the audience) and if they want to bring Gregson back, they can and then she’d have to chose between the two, maybe he’ll appear on her and Richard’s wedding day…right before they say I do

“Hello there Lord Armitage!”

Can you tell I’ve been fantasizing about this just a little?

I’m just saying it’s an idea.

What do y’all think, do you like Richard Armitage? What’s your favorite film of his? Would you mind if he visited Downton Abbey, or is there another actor you want to see in the Abbey? Let me know!

Sexy Dwarves and Shadowhunters!

Hello again my lovelies, I told you I’d post a “real” post later today and TADA: here it is! It’s been almost a whole year since we’ve chatted and I sat here wondering what my first post back should be about and I came to the conclusion that in true Moonstonemaiden fashion, a good list is in order. Y’all know how much I love a good list! (And for those of you who are new to the blog, let me let you in on a little secret…I LOVE lists!) So here’s a quick little list of things that I love and will probably blog about again later on this year — I’m so excited 😀

1) The Desolation of Smaug released in December 2013 and I have officially fallen in love with the sexy dwarf Fili! His romance with the She-Elf Tauriel made me go all teary-eyed and added the perfect dash of romance to what I thought was an awesome adventure flick.

2) I discovered the awesomeness that is Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series and have since fallen completely in love with Jace and his sexy Shadowhunter self! I admit, I saw the movie before I started the series and I love the film, but the books have completely stolen my heart! I nearly fell out of my seat when the plot twist struck in the movie and needless to say, I promptly bought the books. Sadly, I have to wait until May to read the final novel…

3) 2013 was a year of reconnection for me. From family to close friends that I haven’t spoken to for years (for whatever reason) I am pleased to say that I gave things another try, and so far I’m thrilled with the results 😀

4) After seven years with my old, faithful laptop, I am pleased to announce that I have finally gotten a new computer and cannot wait to fill it with hundreds of stories, novels, pictures, songs, and everything that makes me who I am!

5) I discovered the song Let It Go sung by the incredible Idina Menzel from Disney’s Frozen and it had become my new theme song in life! I still haven’t seen the movie yet, but I will — and I’ll probably know the entire song by heart by the time I go to the theaters lol 😀

So what about you guys, any things you love and can’t wait to blog about? Any new books, movies, or songs that you’ve fallen in love with? Let me know! 😀

Big Plans For 2013

Hey everybody, I hope you had awesome holidays and one heck of a good New Year’s! I don’t know about y’all, but this whole holiday break thing still has me a little sluggish on the blog-writing front! I know it’s time to write one but I keep telling myself: later…I’ll write one later… but I guess later has finally arrived. 😀 But anyway, as I hinted in my last post, there will be some new things to look forward to on this blog for 2013 that I hope you will enjoy. Nothing is set in stone yet and titles and general ideas are subject to change at my every whim of course but basically, I plan on having one or two planned pieces every week or every other week (as well as my usual posts of course) including a Movie Monday as well as a Book & Music selection of sorts. As you’ve all probably guessed by now, I’m a music freak and I LOVE discussing my favorite finds, so get ready to talk music people! And movies!

I also will have a new segment that will appear sporadically –as in whenever I feel inspired to write one – that will be called Unsigned Letters, or something similar to that. Unsigned doesn’t feel exactly right though, because they’re more un-addressed than unsigned but I don’t think un-addressed is actually a word…is it? Either way, these will be letters from me to people I know (be they real or fictional), from character to other characters, and/or whatever else I think of at the moment. I think it sounds both exciting and cathartic at the same time. What do you guy’s think, good idea? I certainly like it!

Now, all the business aside, let me just say…I SAW THE HOBBIT! Last Saturday my mom, my bestie, and I all went to the theaters and loaded up on buttery popcorn (ick) and cheesy nachos (YUM) and waited gleefully to fall back under the spell of Middle Earth. I didn’t know whether to sigh or squeal when that familiar music first reached my ears! After a bit of a slow start, the movie picked up its pace and I ended up loving it! Watching it felt like coming home again…but to a new and slightly odd family. I missed my favorite characters and I admit it took me a while to truly comprehend that this was a new story and that it wouldn’t be like the others or have the same feel (even though I’ve read the book before so go figure) but overall I enjoyed the movie and the new characters, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here! There was this funny moment though somewhere in the first thirty minutes where the movie got really really quiet and I randomly heard the beginning of One Day More from Les Miserables (which I guess was playing in the theater next to ours and which I will be going to see hopefully this Saturday!) and I almost jumped out of my seat because 1) I wasn’t sure if anyone else heard it or of it was just me (and if it was just me, what did that mean exactly…?) And 2) I hate having movies spoiled before I’ve seen them (even if I know what’s going to happen already) and I was worried it would ruin the movie for me somehow. Yes, I’m weird like that 😛 But thankfully, it didn’t spoil anything and my best friend leaned over after a second and whispered “Do you hear that?!” which reassured me that I was not hearing things!

So what about y’all, anything new and exciting in the works for your blogs? Any awesome holiday stories to share? And have you seen the Hobbit yet and if so, what did you think?

Gandalf And Gollum And Hobbits, Oh My!

It’s hard to feel like Christmas is literally next week when it’s 80 degrees outside, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for at least a relatively cool Christmas day! There’s no use in hoping for a white Christmas where I live because if it ever snowed more than a few evanescent flurries here, something would be terribly terribly wrong. Panic would ensue, people would start hording water and batteries, and the whole honey-baked ham/unwrapping presents/generally pleasantness of a family day full of squeals and squabbling would be lost and I’m just not up for missing out on the honey-baked ham. I wait all year for this ham… So needless to say, I’ll settle for a balmy breeze and leave the snow to my Northern neighbors (who are better equipped to handle winter’s icy wrath). But anyway, I truly meant to post more than one post last week (honest) but between an unholy/ slightly demonic stomach virus/flu-thing  that left me rather er… incapacitated for a few days (i.e. chained to the bathroom) and attempted Christmas shopping, I got rather behind.  My bad 😀

Anyway, I say attempted shopping instead of actual shopping because although I set out with a purchase in mind, and a coupon at the ready, I returned home present-less.  *Sad face* I’m one of those people who doesn’t go shopping until I’ve looked online for what I want to buy, found the price, looked for a coupon if there’s one available, grumbled if there isn’t a coupon, and confirmed that whatever I want is in stock at the store I’m going to. I’ve arrived at stores too many times with enthusiasm and hopefulness in full gear only to discover that whatever I wanted was not in the store, so now I CHECK! So all this in mind, I set out to buy my bestie’s Christmas present (the Thomas Kinkade Disney Calendar for 2013) and after circling and combing through the calendar section enough times to attract attention from my fellow shoppers I decided to just go have a store clerk locate the item. I was pleased (if not surprised) when he confirmed that yes the calendar was in stock and waited patiently as he went in search of it. Fifteen minutes later he returned crestfallen to announce that the calendar was nowhere to be found…sigh. It’s sad when the computer knows an item is in the store, a worker has admittedly seen the item in the store, and yet it cannot be found. Oh well, bestie will just have to settle for ordering it herself online (because I hate ordering things online) or picking a different calendar. Who knew calendars were such a popular gift?!

There was an up-side to the whole shopping debacle however, not only did I get to spend an hour in my most favorite store ever (Barnes and Noble), but I also came across the cutest little Hobbit-themed dolls!

Gandalf the Grey

Gollum and Bilbo

Gandalf is my favorite of course! I haven’t seen the Hobbit yet, as I’m planning on waiting until Les Miserables comes out so I can see both of them at once, but I am so very excited! I just hope these new ones blend in visually with the previous ones because I adore the Lord of the Rings (extended versions) and it would annoy me when I do a movie marathon if there was too much of a discrepancy (though really, it’s more of my favorite characters so I doubt I’m going to be complaining, lol).

And before I go, I am tickled to announce that I was nominated for the REALITY blog award by my favorite blogging duo: Mystic Cooking! Thank you so much Katie and Heidi, y’all are the best and you truly made my day!

The Rules:

  1. Display the award logo on your blog.
  2. Link back to the person who nominated you.
  3. Answer the questions.
  4. Pass the award onto to any other bloggers you want — and link to one of their specific posts so that they get notified by ping back

If you could change something what would you change? Nothing. I may not have liked everything in my life but it’s made me who I am today and I’m trying to be content and happy with myself and my life.

If you could relive one day, when would it be?

One day of my life or any day?! Hmm, I would relieve the day my entire family went to Disney when I was six because that’s one of the few memories I have where all of us (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.) were together and happy. And any day: that’s such a hard question for a history nut, I don’t know…but I’ve always wanted to see ancient Troy, but you know, not the day it fell or anything.

What’s one thing that really scares you?

The thought of losing someone I love.

What one dream have you not completed yet, and do you think you will be able to complete it?

Being published! And heck yes, I plan on completing it! 😀

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be?

Maybe one of my characters…though it would need to be a calm day or something because my characters tend to have dangerous and busy lives…

I hereby optionally pass this award onto:

Thank y’all again, and I promise to post more this week (you know, barring a return from the stomach flu from hell or anything else that might put a damper on my desire to write)! But before I go…are any of you going to see/have seen the Hobbit?! Was it good? Let me know, but please no spoilers (and yes, I’ve read the book so really how much can be spoiled, but you know what I mean, lol)! And how’s holiday shopping going for you guys? Fun-filled or fiasco?

It’s A Movie Conspiracy I Tell You!

Have y’all ever noticed that all the good movies hit the theaters at the same time? I’m pretty sure it’s a conspiracy of epic proportions, because we go through months or years of dry spells where there are literally only one or two good movies a year and then suddenly…HOLD ONTO YOUR WALLETS BECAUSE EVERY GOOD MOVIE THAT WE CAN IMAGINE IS COMING OUT AT THE SAME TIME! I mean seriously, they should plan this out a little better and spread out the awesomeness so that people aren’t so aware of the fact that they’re about to shell out a fortune to watch good entertainment. It seems that we’re now entering into one of these “good movie” spells that both excite us and bankrupt us at the same time because I’ve noticed there are a heck of a lot of good movies coming out in the next three or four months that I can’t wait to see. This leads me to my second blog list (squee, I love lists!):

Les Miserables– (December 25th 2012) I’m eagerly awaiting the Christmas season for more than just my annual visit from Santa this year folks! I can already hear the music keying up in the background (though that’s probably because I play my Les Mis playlist on youtube pretty much every day but that’s beside the point)! But seriously, I can’t wait to finally watch this in theaters and finally hear the new renditions of these timeless songs!

2) The Hobbit– (December 14th 2012) Do I even have to explain why I’m excited for this?! I think not, suffice it to say it’s more Lord of the Rings, the return of Gandalf, and the introduction of Richard Armitage (who captured my ardent interest after playing Mr. Thornton in BBC’s North and South. Check it out people!).

3) The Host– (March 29th 2013) Aliens freak me out but I absolutely love this book and I’m quite excited to see how it’s been translated it to film! The book emphasized both the glory and agony of human emotions through Wanderer’s (aka Wanda the soul/alien) interactions and relationships with her human host Melanie’s family, species, and boyfriend. I don’t want to give anything away for those who have not read the book or who plan on seeing the movie, but I will say this: read the book before you see the movie. The book is powerfully moving and no matter how good (or horrid) the movie is, it will never be all that the book is.

4) Beautiful Creatures– (February 13th 2013) I actually have my best friend to thank for this one, she sent me the link of the preview last Friday and now it’s driving me nuts because I want to read the books so badly! Not only did the trailer for this film grab my attention with its paranormal, romantic, southern-gothic content, but it also played Seven Devils by Florence and the Machine in the background and that just automatically makes it awesome. I now have three months to read the four books in this series before the movie comes out…hardly a challenge (except finding the money to buy all these books…oh Santa darling)!

5) Warm Bodies– (February 1st 2013) I saw the preview for this the other night and although zombies are not my normal thing, this movie looks rather interesting and I have to admit…I really really want to see it! I would never have thought to do a zombie romance movie/book/anything, but this looks so cute it’s not even funny. Check out the trailer on Imdb and let me know what y’all think!

6) Anna Karenina– (November 16th 2012) I love classics, and the Vivian Leigh version of this film was incredibly beautiful so I’m hoping that this movie doesn’t disappoint. I was completely enthused until I watched the trailer for the film and saw that it was a very artistic rendition of the book; it still looks rather good and I loved Moulin Rouge and over the top things like that so hopefully everything will turn out great and I will love this movie and it’s wacky, craziness!

Image From Google

7) Cloud Atlas-(October 26th 2012) This movie looks amazing, with its interconnected stories and flashbacks and romance and redemption. It’s so far up my alley that it’s practically next door to my house (metaphorically speaking of course, lol). I’ve had this philosophical gem of a movie pegged for a few months now, waiting for it to come out and now that it has I can’t wait to go see it!

See, what did I tell you?! So many good-looking movies coming out in such a short time span and these are only the movies coming out in the next three to four months! I also can’t wait to see World War Z (June), The Great Gatsby (May), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (November), and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (August). What about y’all, any movies you can’t wait to see? Are there some on my list that look good, or maybe some that I’ve missed?

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to start on another list…

Dear Santa,

This year’s gonna be a big one, so let’s start with the easiest thing: money…
